This page in a nutshell: Offline sources are just as valid as online sources. A bot for such articles would be very welcome. What do others think? Bobblewik (talk) 19:08, (UTC) The 'List of asteroids' articles are ideal for a bot, if somebody is prepared to set it up. Once you start writing, you know youre committing yourself to 100K words that, ugh, have to not only fit together but end in a satisfying way. We could then concentrate first on articles containing repeated links that only have a few lines between them. It can go on for as long as you want, and elements can be as tied together or separate as you want. Thus I would be happy to see a list sorted by proximity of the identical links. If they are separated by 100 lines, I probably do not even notice. If two identical links are separated by only 1 line, then I think it looks bad. Proximity is a meaningful measure for me. Need to provide suggestions on how best to tackle these. (See m:MediaWiki_User's_Guide:_Setting_preferences#Date_format for more information.) If you remove links of these forms, then many people will see the dates displayed in an undesired format. ], ] ] ] ] ] ]-]Īny of the above input forms can be displayed as if it was one of the other forms, depending on user preference. Pairs of links that include both a year and a date within the year, are used to customise the date display. Before you remove links, please think about whether your change will make the article easier or more difficult to use.ĭo not break the display of dates The meaning of too close usually relies on human judgement. It's only when they are too close together that the extra links should be removed. Multiple links to the same article are often useful. All data is stored in plain text files with. Creating a new page is as easy as linking to a nonexistent page. Pages are stored in a folder structure, like in an outliner, and can have attachments. Each page can contain links to other pages, simple formatting and images. I am new to WiKi stuff, but not to informatics - maybe I am missing something here.ĭo not blindly remove multiple links Zim is a graphical text editor used to maintain a collection of wiki pages. Is someone trying to save bytes still ?įurther, every occurrence of a word or phrase which has a wiki page should be automatically linked - save the user creating the source page from having to garbage it up with brackets. There may or may not be such a link so a search might be fruitless or I might just not find the one link. When I am reading a sentence ans see a linkable term and want to click on it and go there, I don't care to search elsewhere in the article for the clickable link. I don't understand what the problem with multiple links to the same page is. It may be useful to tidy up multiple links on the pages below. There are some circumstances in which it is useful - for example where two separate events being discussed in an article happen in the same year. Normally it's only useful to link the first instance of a term on a page to a relevant article. Preamble edit Normally it's only useful to link the first instance of a term on a page to a relevant article.
